Does My Child Need Testing?

Most children cannot effectively explain their challenges, leading to frustration for everyone involved. Testing isn't about labeling your child—it's about empowering them for a lifetime of growth and success.

Consider testing if you answer "yes" to any of these questions:

  • Is your child falling through the cracks at school?

  • Have you wondered if your child has ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, or is neuro diverse?

  • Are you concerned about your child's academic environment or think they need accommodations?

  • Do you struggle to understand how your child learns or wonder if you're parenting in the right way?

Comprehensive Assessment Options

  • Identifies learning disorders and executive functioning challenges. Focuses on ADHD symptoms, reading, writing, math, and Nonverbal Learning Disorders. Provides documentation for school accommodations, IEPs, 504 Plans, and college/ACT/SAT accommodations.

  • Specifically designed to identify autism spectrum conditions while assessing related learning and emotional components. Provides clear intervention recommendations and strategies for social development.

  • As trusted partners with Colorado schools for 40 years, we provide all required admission testing including WISC-V, Woodcock-Johnson, WIAT, and KTEA assessments with budget-friendly options.

  • Our most comprehensive option assessing learning, intelligence, emotional well-being, and overall mental health. Includes practical parenting strategies and specific recommendations for education and treatment.

Meet Dr. Langley

Making Testing a Positive, Life-Changing Experience

Dr. Jim Langley, PsyD, brings both professional expertise and personal understanding to his role as Director of Psychological Testing at KPLA. With advanced degrees from the University of Denver and specialized training in ADHD and Autism Spectrum assessments, Dr. Langley has transformed how families experience the testing process.

"When I was diagnosed with ADHD in high school, the experience felt clinical and deficit-focused," Dr. Langley shares. "Now, as a psychologist and Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist, I test children the way I wish I had been tested—making it positive, strengths-based, and an opportunity for parents to see their child in a completely new light."

As a father of five boys, Dr. Langley understands firsthand the challenges parents face when seeking answers about their child's development. This personal perspective shapes his approach to each assessment, where he focuses on empowering children through their strengths while providing parents with the clarity they need.

"We assess the whole child," Dr. Langley explains. "Beyond simply clarifying a diagnosis, we want to deeply understand your child and provide results that unlock their success at school, with friends, and in life."

Parents consistently praise Dr. Langley's remarkable ability to connect with children who typically struggle in assessment situations. He creates a comfortable, engaging environment where children's true abilities can shine through, often revealing strengths that had previously gone unnoticed.

"As a parent myself, I want to ensure that you walk away from the assessment with a paradigm shift on your child," Dr. Langley says. "My goal is to empower you with the understanding and tools you need to maximize your child's potential in life."

    Our Approach to Payment

We believe families deserve the highest quality care without the limitations often imposed by insurance companies. As a private-pay practice, we can:

    • Provide services that insurance companies rarely approve

    • Guarantee confidentiality without sharing sensitive information with insurance companies

    We Make Quality Care Accessible

While we don't directly bill insurance, we offer several ways to manage costs:

    • Superbill Documentation:

    • We provide detailed superbills for you to submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement

    • HSA/FSA Accepted: All our services qualify for payment through Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts

    • Transparent Pricing: Clear fee structure with no surprise costs

    • Payment Plans: Available for testing and ongoing services (ask for details)

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why don't you accept insurance directly? Insurance companies increasingly limit the number and length of sessions, require specific diagnoses that may not be appropriate, and often deny coverage for the specialized services many children need. By operating independently, we can focus entirely on what will help your child most effectively.

Will my insurance reimburse me if I submit a superbill? Manyplans offer some level of out-of-network benefits. We're happy to provide guidance on checking your specific plan's coverage. Typically, families with out-of-network benefits receive partial reimbursement.

Isn't it less expensive to use in-network providers? Initially, it may seem that way. However, many families find that limited coverage, high deductibles, session restrictions, and the frequent need for additional services make insurance-based care ultimately more costly in both time and money. Many insurance-based providers also have significantly longer waitlists.

How do I know if my HSA/FSA card will work for payment? Most HSA/FSA cards will work directly with our payment system. If yours doesn't, we can provide detailed receipts for reimbursement from your account administrator.

What makes your services worth the investment? Our specialized expertise, comprehensive approach, and proven results often lead to faster progress and more sustainable outcomes. Many families tell us they spent years and significant resources on multiple providers before finding the right support at KPLA.

We understand that navigating the financial aspects of care can be challenging. Dr. Langley is available to discuss payment options and help you determine the most suitable approach for your family's needs.
